This collaboration with Wyndham Grand Hotels was developed as part of a new program titled “Reconnected: A Wyndham Grand Family Experience”, which launched in 2018 at Wyndham’s participating locations around the world. We were asked to design a kit of parts that could be put together in-room by families to create blanket fort enclosures. After prototyping a range of shapes, materials, and configurations, the pieces were fabricated from corrugated plastic components which flat pack into a travel bag. These components assemble into a sturdy base, upon which three different “tops” could be attached to give the overall form a specific identity: from school, to castle, to cave. A decorative emblem panel furthers the association with the particular shape. Intended as a light, playful structure, the project provided an opportunity to work through product design issues while retaining a thematic connection to our passion for education and design for children.
