Brilla Public Charter K-8
Bronx, NY
Brilla Public Charter Schools, which takes its name from the Spanish for “shine”, is a community focused charter school network that provides educational opportunities with an emphasis on principles of human dignity, free choice, and enduring truths. This project for their new K-8 school in the Bronx entailed the full renovation of the 70,000 SF, former St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School. Brilla’s new facility, completed in 7 months, accommodates 730 students with 36 classrooms, a new cafeteria, a 5,700 SF gymnatorium assembly space, and informal instructional and meeting spaces located throughout the building. The project moved swiftly through construction, despite the challenges of working restrictions and material shortages during the pandemic, and the school opened on time for the start of the 2020 academic year.
